Where does the data come from?

Environmental data about products and materials can be confusing and difficult to find and use.

Designers rarely have time to learn how to navigate the complex world of environmental data, which can lead to uninformed decisions about the products they choose. That's where Materialisting comes in.

We make it easy for designers to find, understand, and use environmental data. In addition, in order to make the products' environmental aspects a true guiding factor in product choices, designers need to be able to view them simultaneously with the products' other information, technical and visual, to truly find what they need.

The secret behind our data engine

We collect our data from multiple sources throughout the market. Through series of AI-assisted calculations and analyses we are able to present to you a simple, visual, comprehensive and comparable representation of the products’ environmental impacts, together with other technical and visual properties.

Our way of reporting the environmental impacts of products is the most comprehensive in the field. We utilize the full potential of the raw EPD-data to provide designers with the most accurate and up-to-date information on the environmental impact of the products and materials. We have developed our methods in cooperation with the leading experts in green building and circular economy.

Our way to gather and manage data makes it possible for us to expand the collection of products on the Platform fast and continuously. This means that you will always have access to the latest information on the environmental impact of building materials and products, so you can make the most sustainable choices.

The sources of environmental info on the Platform

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are standardized documents that provide detailed information about the environmental impact of a product over its entire life cycle. EPDs are based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, which is the most comprehensive approach to measuring environmental impact. LCA considers all of the environmental impacts associated with a product's life cycle, from the extraction and processing of raw materials to the manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal of the product. On the Platform these life cycle stages can be seen as modules named with a letter and a number (e.g. A1-A3), and be used to filter the search. EPDs are verified by independent third-party organizations to ensure that they are accurate and complete.

Environmental certificates are labels that indicate that a product meets certain environmental standards. These certificates are typically issued by third-party organizations.
